You calling someone else elusive. That's rich.
Title: Re: The Meta Game
Post by: alexarch on February 07, 2008, 11:54:01 AM
When I think elusive, I think saltine.
When I think elusive, I think illuvial.  Then I think about glaciers.  Then I think about a Family Guy bit I saw last night.  Then I think, "I wish Family Guy wasn't so referential.  It hurts my brain sometimes."  Then I think, "That wasn't a very original thought.  Commenting on The Family Guy's referential humor is like commenting on Liberace's homosexuality."  Then I think, "Was that an outdated reference?"  Then I try to think of other similes, but it's hard to do while typing.

I just farted.  Tee-hee.

Toughen up, for crying out loud. You're missing the best film of the year. Fortunately, I think you are in the minority. Many more people will probably be prompted to see it because of our heated discussion. At least I hope that's the way it is.

It's next on my list to see - and your "discussion" will be still echoing in my impressionable ears while I am still high from cinecrack...

Oh I broke into my parents house and stole their TV and hocked it - just so's I can gets my cinecrack...

Correct!

A little hesitation on Wayne's face before "the act which will go unmentioned at the end of The Searchers."  My thoughts exactly.  And I agree that I wanted Ford to "exploit" the moment a little bit.  Which is a strange thing to want.  It makes me think I've been dumbed down by today's hammerhead Hollywood style.  I've been thinking a lot about what Adam said, and how he defended that moment.  It's an interesting thought.  And it's possible that Adam has a subtler and more canny intelligence that me.  But it's not what I saw when I watched the movie.  So there.

Thanks for the back up, Cody --

From Wikipedia: One such variation is the "flipside", also called the "windmill"; this method begins like a regular high five, however upon meeting up top, both high-fivers continue to swing their arms downwards until they meet again in a "low five". This method is depicted in the feature film Top Gun repeatedly.

A lot of the time is spent thinking up responses to posts and never bothering to actually type them up.

2000 posts in style (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=3647.msg115532#msg115532), though.  Nice.  I just hope other people aren't as intimidated by your eclectic, well thought out, enjoyably written list as I am, or that thread is never going to get off the ground.

The answer to the previous Meta Game question was Junior (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=1725.msg20662#msg20662).  That's off the table now.  New question:

In honor of roujin's 2000th post, name the previous five topics he started.

Serves you right for name-dropping Sonic Youth album titles and making, um, certain people feel less hip than when they woke up this morning. :P

In the meantime, I will continue to derail your thread with my usual nonsense to create the illusion of activity. :D

In honor of roujin's 2000th post, name the previous five topics he started.

The answers:

Mind Game (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=2579.0) (Overlooked Films, October 19, 2007)
OINK (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=2595.0) (Music, October 23, 2007)
Takashi Miike (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=2852.0) (Movie Talk, December 11, 2007)
Piracy (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=3025.0) (Movie Talk, January 19, 2008)
Unpopular Movie Opinions (http://www.filmspotting.net/boards/index.php?topic=3408.0) (Movie Talk, April 04, 2008)

Anyone got a good meta question to revive this thread?

Yea, I would say so. And I'd describe the writing style as friggin' hilarious.

There's a sarcasm to your marathon write ups that reads very funny.  Don't forget, about a month ago I spent my Friday night reading all your marathon posts I had missed.  I believe it was after you had me laughing so hard at the spilled tray of drinks cliche (Staying Alive) that I woke up my spouse.

I will treasure that moment. Always. :) Even though I wasn't there.

None of those. It was a discussion brought about by a particular filmspot category. It turned into quite a debate.

My guesses:

Joem18b

roujin
saltine

Your top guess is right, Sandy! As for the others:

Joem18b - 8/11/2007
pixote - 10/23/2007
roujin - 6/21/2007
saltine - 7/28/2006

95% of the ninety-three people on the list have posted at least once since December 1. Unfortunately, one of the answers to this quiz hasn't posted since August (but she's still an active lurker).

I want to say St. Martin or ses for some reason, seem to always remember them being around, but I have a feeling I'm wrong on both counts.

FroHam/Corey was around for years before he left us, wasn't he? Though I always perceived him as young and hot-headed. Perhaps he wasn't around as early as that though.

Awww. Miss him.

St. Martin the Bald - 1/31/2006
ses - 10/6/2006
FroHam X - 2007-09-01

The unnamed Filmspotter has been active (going by Registered Date, which isn't quite accurate) longer than anyone but Adam, but has less than 500 posts over the last eight years.
