As usual with his early TV work, Give Me a Home shows little of the Tsai we know and love. However, it's not a bad little movie at all. There are themes that pop up frequently in his later films, namely poverty and the struggles of emigres. The story concerns construction workers who are living in an area underneath the construction site, and one woman in particular who yearns to buy a house for her family. The camerawork is pretty decent for a TV movie, and the performances are all solid. Good, though not exceptional, social realist drama. Rating: Good (74)
