Master Work
1) Lady Vengeance
2) Three.... Extremes
Great
3) Thirst
4) Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
5) Oldboy

He's quickly developed into one of my all time favorites, Lady Vengeance is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Lady Vengeance is one long first act with a lot of convoluted loop de loops. I like the arty visuals and the final act is equal to the rest of the trilogy, but the prison and Australia... the first hour is all protracted set-up.

While I don't think you're wrong about there being a lot of set-up, that's not necessarily a bad thing.  I really enjoyed all that stuff, watching how she made all her alliances, how her mindset develops.  "Convoluted" seems to imply "hard to follow", and I wouldn't agree with that.  Maybe to a degree, but not to any degree of frustration.

1. Lady Vengeance
2. Oldboy
3. Joint Security Area
4. Thirst
5. I'm A Cyborg
6. Mr. Vengeance (another S Korean slapstick comedy, by a director above that sort of nonsense)

I won't fault someone for having heart-felt reactions. However, 1SO's long first act reaction to Lady V is misplaced. The plot developed and as each of LV's prison comrades comes into the story, the film jumps back to the reason they are so loyal to her. This doesn't represent an overlong " story set-up" but a natural way to move a complex story along. Instead of being detrimental it is a wonderful way to progress the story.

I did a Google search for "Ladyboy" based on your recommendation.  Apparently it's a really voluminous series of short films.  Made my way through about 30 of them so far; quite avant garde.  Very similar protagonists, and each one (so far) lacks a discernible plot.  Still, I find them titillating enough to keep watching.  Can't say the kids are enjoying them as much as I am, but what the hell - art is art.
Kevin: Yes, why does there have to be evil?

Supreme Being: I think it has something to do with free will.

Verna: I suppose you think you raised hell.

Tom: Sister, when I've raised hell you'll know it.
