Zelig is one of my favorites by Woody. It is such a great pseudo-documentary. Definitely agree that even Woody himself overlooks this one given the fact he doesn't like people say "I love Woody Allen's movie, particularly the early funny ones".

I'm old enough to remember when Zelig wasn't one of the early ones. In fact, that line that he "doesn't like" was famously spoken by space aliens in his own film Stardust Memories, which came out three years before Zelig, and for me it has always been associated with his pre-Annie Hall films.

My .02: his most underappreciated film (not "best", to be clear...just don't hear it get mentioned enough).

I always felt it's quirky premise was matched by great moments of poignancy.  The last shot is very well done: his character simply blending in, as himself, with others around, not needing to be on a pedestal nor acting as someone else, finally just a part of the scenery and able to more healthily exist.
