I'll probably kick it out of my top 100.

I expect Ratcatcher to crack the upcoming edition of the Top 100 which would make me extremely happy.

It will make my top 100

Mine, too.

hmmm...I'm officially intrigued now

We're gonna have to choose a Borzage movie to be on the list, ET.

For serious.

I'll probably kick it out of my top 100.

Filmspotting Armond.

It suddenly sucks!

Together (Lukas Moodysson, 2000)

This film didn't win me over right away. I think that's because none of the characters were particularly likeable. I didn't dislike them, but I didn't really care about their situation either. They were watchable because they were weird, but annoying for the same reason. I mean I know they are hippies and being all free and whatever, but I just wanted to throttle them. Everyone is so afraid of offending each other. I found their way of life, especially their way of talking infuriating. It was so inhuman! Okay, I guess I did dislike them heh.

Eventually though I came around (or the movie did). Their stupid quirks become less annoying because things happen and they ease up. Finally I can see their human side and start to like them a little. A wrench gets thrown into the spokes of their perfect little commune and everyone is unhappy (except me, because I'm enjoying watching them squirm :)).

It gets good at the end because finally people quit acting like zombies and start dealing with their problems (which really weren't that big to begin with). It all wraps up nicely and the final scene is wonderful. It should be cheesy and not work at all, but it's great. The music kicks in and makes you happy. The music through the whole movie was really good in fact.

All in all I'd call it a success. Without that ending though, ooh it would've been close. Moodysson is still in my good books. I've already seen F*cking Amal so what's next?

The Lives Of Others (Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, 2006)

I did not love this. It's an amazing story and I can't fault the filmmaking one bit but for some reason I was cold on it. I appreciated it though, that was enough to get from beginning to end (and what an end). If only, I don't know... if only it had been a little less tedious. Ulrich Mühe's poker face was interesting and kind of menacing at first but then it lost it's edge.

I appreciated it mostly as a history lesson

From Armond, on The Hurt Locker:

Quote
Kathryn Bigelow's latest joins the short list of great Iraq War films

Literally less than a month later, on Loarna's Silence:

Quote
When Lorna’s pimp tells her “You shouldn’t worry about it, a junkie prefers drugs to life,” it recalled the misconception in Kathryn Bigelow’s now overrated The Hurt Locker that “war is a drug.”The pimp’s alibi is another art-movie fallacy.

Good times.
