But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

Rosemary's Baby 78%

This movie is never on TV. So last night when I saw the credits I settled down to watch it for the first time.
I've avoided spoilers through the years assuming I'd eventually get to it, so I can't say I knew a lot about it. And midnight by yourself is a particularly vulnerable time of night, which should really enhance a frightening experience. But I wasn't scared. I mean the rape scene is particularly instense. But I just couldn't get into it. I still can't put my finger on why, technically and asthetically its a very well made film, and obviously an excellent cast, but in the end I found myself more compelled to watch by what Mia Farrow was wearing (and she does have some great clothes) than wanting to know what would happen next.

Although this has peaked my interest into seeking out some John Cassavetes films for the first time.

You said it.

I liked many other aspects of the film. Like the whole conspiracy element I thought was handled well. All the performances were fine. Idk. It was definately a disappointment for me.

Slumdog Millionaire

Eh. Nice cinematography, cool credits, but that's about it.

Accomplishment: 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. Enjoyableness: 2 1/4 out of 5 stars.

Im guessing your ratings are low because it didnt live up to the hype? am i right?

I hate it when a movie gets to hyped, because you always end up feeling disappointed when you see it.

Actually, I went into it after hearing that it was rather over-rated, so I was actually expecting it to exceed those expectations. As predictable socially-conscious Oscar-bait goes, I rather prefer Crash, I'm sorry to say.
