The Kingdom 80%

Would have been a damn fine action movie without the dippy dialogue.

Jennifer Garner is my hero.

She was pretty awesome in that one.

Good call. I remember enjoying The Kingdom also.

Awesome! Now, you have to go watch All About My Mother if you haven't already.

Definitely will do! The only other Almodovar I've seen besides Volver is Flower of my Secret.

Everything Almodovar is beautiful. All About My Mother is great. Bad Education is great. Volver is great. But Talk to Her is amazing!!! See everything Almodovar you can.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

It's a kids movie, so what can you say?

You're telling me you never, at one point, related to this movie?

Because to me, like American Graffitti, it's not only meant to appeal young people now, but older people who could see a little of their former selves.

I just mean it's all quite silly, the whole thing is a ridiculous fantasy; the secret show on the rooftop, chilling out at Electric Lady Studios....

I wasn't going to pick on it because it is sweet and I think teenagers would really like it, and that's what I meant by "what can you say?". But for me it just wasn't funny and I wasn't really convinced by this scene of teen hipsters.

As a former teenage hipster, I can say it's pretty close.

I could relate to the whole high school kid who built their identity around music thing, but I was probably always too cynical to really fall for this.

One thing I could not relate to was the notion that Norah's appearance was second-tier. But to be fair that's a stupid convention found in a lot of movies, even movies I like.

Hey, if that reflected your teen years with accuracy, then that's pretty awesome. It certainly didn't reflect my experience and I suspect most teens, even hipsters, would see that as a bit of an exaggeration/fantasy.

But more importantly, I just didn't think it was very funny.

Pulp Fiction: The Extended Trivia Track

****/****

I have owned the deluxe edition of this movie for several years but never gotten around to watching the movie with the "trivia track" enabled. My recent discussion in the 90's bracket thread reminded me to watch it again. If you are a fan of this movie, or Tarantino in general, it is well worth it. You learn alot about his influences (De Palma, Godard Hawkes, Fujita etc). Several homages and story connections are pointed out which I had never noticed. It really shows how Tarantino was able to make an original film by stitching together the threads of so many great films he loved.

P.S. The faux image is a Bansky street art piece. Bansky is one of the greatest street artists of all time. Go here http://www.banksy.co.uk/ to find more of his amazing art.
