Badlands

I'm not really sure when I was supposed to care. Shouldn't two psychopaths be interesting or at the very least evoke empathy/disdain/horror/pity or something? A shame. 5/10.

but all the pretty random shots of nature!  ;)

Depends really. If you need to feel something for your characters then I can understand your desire to feel something. When I watched Badlands I remember being very impressed with the fact that Malick didn't want me to feel anything for either of them, just experience what they experience.

Hmmm, a rather numbing experience. I'd rather feel anything but indifferent.

I guess that's where we differ big time, I felt everything but indifference for Badlands, I thought it was a very evocative and powerful film, Malick's best for me.

Richard III (1995).

Loved the play, loved the movie. McKellen and Maggie Smith in particular were superb. I loved how they transposed Richard onto Hitler. Really cool. And the way Richard would look and speak into the camera was great and had a perfect payoff on the third to last shot. And that last shot, too, was perfect. Check it:

Ooo, yay! So glad you loved this, too, Junior. Last shot, yes, awesome.

Brick (2005)

Originally I was going to write an actual review about this, but out of laziness I decided not to. All I will say is this, I loved the transplanted dialogue, and pretty much everything about this film. But, any time a film works the word effulgent into a characters mouth I can only respond with a "Whoa, awesome."
