A bit heavy-handed in your opinion?  I suppose the first word of the sermon and last word of the screenplay sum it up, huh?

I myself loved Doubt and had flashbacks of Catholic School. How this movie did not receive a nomination for best picture when all 4 main characters were nominated for best actor awards is beyond me. It should have taken the place of Frost/Nixon in my opinion. Viola Davis had the smallest of the major parts but her performance is what stays with me today from this movie. Sharing a screen with Meryl Streep and nt only holding your own but outshining, in my opinion, is no easy task. Davis played the mother with dignity. She put across that this is a meek woman in all aspects of her life except when it comes to her son. She knows what he is and just wants him to survive until he can get away from the life she doesn't want him to have. Very powerful performance.

Great points on Viola Davis.  It is the kind of feminine strength that I love to see portrayed in movies.

And understatement of the year with regards to Frost/Nixon.  Two great performance in that, but an otherwise pretty slightly-better-than-mediocre film.

Of course you must be thinking of Synecdoche, New York, right?

Well, I do own S,NY on DVD and not Doubt... But Doubt is still better. By a bit.
