Thanks much, Verite and worm! Making my Denis list now . . .

I'm not sure if 35 Rhums is going to be here, but I'll find out - I hope so.

Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession - nice little Jerry Harvey doc that convincingly posits Z Channel as the best thing ever.  as a bonus, it is always fun to see Tarantino obsess on film.  compare this pic to Scorsese's Voyage to better understand how the latter is lifeless
But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

Hey Keith, you watched 2012, right? Did you like it, because Ebert loved it, and I find myself looking forward to seeing it even more now.

Flick Chart Nights #3 -
Beautiful Girls
Dir. Ted Demme
DP.  Adam Kimmel

For our third Flick Chart Night I got to pick.  And lucky for me, no one else in the house had seen this, so it got to be this early in the listing.  For me, this must constitute nearly 200 viewings.

It went over really well, one of my friends compared it to his favorite film and is apparently telling everyone he can through FACEBOOK to see it.

As for me, the older I get the more important this film is.  No longer can I identify the characters in the film with people I know in real life, now I'm starting to become these characters.

Natalie Portman is adorable as ever, and one of the original Manic Cute Cool Chicks.

This is a very special film to me for dozens of reasons and will continue to be.

Not for nothin' but  he also loved Legally Blond 2.

For what little it's worth, regarding Claire Denis:  I started with Beau Travail.  Ended there, too.

Not that I've written her off.  Just haven't been overly enthusiastic about checking out her other films.

It's not indicative of Vendredi Soir and 35 Shots of Rum.  Other than sensuous cinematography, spare dialogue, and great use of music, that's all they have in common in with Beau Travail.

Let's make a deal: I'll take that The Personals vs. I forget for the Asian Bracket and you watch Vendredi.  *Sticks out hand* Deal?
