Hmmm, what are your reasons/his reasons I mean? I'm not as big of a Sodie fan as you are, so your insight here would be appreciated.
I like it too, but I certainly understand why he doesn't.
Soderbergh apparently hates that film.He can hate it all he wants, I really like it.
I don't remember Soderbergh getting real specific about his disappointment in the work he did on The Underneath
and generally in the period between sex, lies
. Mostly, though, I think he probably feels like he was starting to phone everything in, especially by taking projects he wasn't passionate about. Soderbergh really wanted his second film to be Quiz Show
, and when Robert Redford took that away from him (long story short) he began a period of filmmaking that was devoid of passion and creative interest. That didn't reemerge until the renaissance that was Schizopolis
, his first masterpiece. The Underneath
certainly isn't a bad film, but I think Soderbergh's touch is noticeably more distant.
