You don't have to be stoned. It's a classic.

i think it is funnier now in little chucks than as a movie on the whole for me. the pee wee herman schtick (the endless HA-Ha's mostly) has worn off but things like speck the dog, large marge, the big shoe dance, the bike chase scene, the pet store scene, the movie adaptation of the story are still funny.

Can't you apply this quote to almost everything???

You Can Count On Me (Kenneth Lonergan, 2000)

I really can't fault this film for anything. I enjoyed every minute of it. Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo give two great performances, and Matthew Broderick also deserves a lot of credit for his role as the uptight bank manager. This wasn't one of those dramas that feels larger than life. It's believable and natural, and still plenty compelling.

It struck me while watching this film that it was probably the writer/director's first movie. It wasn't that it felt low budget but rather the simplicity of it that gave it away. When it was over I went on imdb expecting to find that Lonergan had gone on to do other good work. Sadly, outside of co-writing a few films, he hasn't made another movie. A shame really. I'd put it up there with Little Miss Sunshine in terms of light, amusing, semi-serious family dramas. A little less quirky, but well worth watching.

Might be worth checking out if you haven't already seen it.

Braveheart (Mel Gibson, 1995)

I don't have much to say about the actual movie. I still think it's one of the greatest.

About the blu-ray, wow! The colours really pop compared to the dvd. The costumes, particularly the stuff worn by the royals... amazing. I spent so much time looking around, enjoying the scenary, that I actually noticed about a million continuity errors I'd never seen before. Nothing major though, and probably not something you'd notice if you were paying attention to the actual movie. Anyways, it looks great. Worth the upgrade? You bet.

The Beach (Danny Boyle, 2000)

After the first hour I was ready to give this movie 4 stars, but sadly it fades a bit in the second half. The perfect setup up, but not a perfect film. I can't even say where it goes wrong exactly. Maybe this part...

*only look if you've seen the movie*

Oh, Danny Boy(le)... did you have to do that?

No matter, still a great movie. The best Boyle movie I've seen so far... and I love 28 Days Later and Sunshine. (also seen Slumdog & Trainspotting, but did not love them)
