The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Andrew Dominik, 2007)
I'm very satisfied with how this lived up to the hype. There's something about it, tonally, that I just really loved. The cinematography is as beautiful as I was led to believe, and the story takes its time to build into an emotional climax that is very effective. The performances are wonderful all around the board, but Casey Affleck in particular is exceptional. The exploration of the relationship between Jesse James and Robert Ford is really interestingly portrayed, especially in the second half.
The more I think about this, the more I like it. 2007 was an awesome year.
