The Big Sleep
1946 Dir. Howard Hawks

Grade: A+

I want to watch this...
I’ve lied to men who wear belts. I’ve lied to men who wear suspenders. But I’d never be so stupid as to lie to a man who wears both a belt and suspenders.

I'm a little late here, but I enjoyed "The Box". I'll take inspired ridiculousness over uninspired mediocrity any day of the week.

...The kind of movie to show people who think all black and white movies are old, boring and worthless...

...then I might need to give this a try

(Interesting factoid: screenplay was written by William Faulkner, Leigh Brackett (largely forgotten now, but a quite popular female SF writer in the 1940s and 1950s) and Jules Furthman (on him, I got nothin'))

Brackett was a great writer whose credits also include Rio Bravo, The Long Goodbye and an early draft of The Empire Strikes Back.

Furthman was a screenwriter going back to the teens.  He worked on a lot of classic films by Howard Hawks and Josef von Sternberg.

Rio Bravo is one of my all time favorite films. Just wanted to put that out there.

I can see a lot of people having serious problems with that storyline.
That was the best part!

I didn't think this movie was great but July is doing something different and I did enjoy it.

I actually consider a lot of movies to be life-changing! I take them to my heart and they melt into my personality.

The Big Sleep is great, as is The Third Man, as is Three Comrades.

This would be my review of the film...because it would prove them right.  :P
