It's just the pictures getting smaller.

The Karate Kid (Original)

Having just seen the very good remake of this 80s/Sports Classic I wanted to revisit the original and see how they compare.  The original is still solid and exciting, especially the triumphant finale.  Pat Morita's performance as Mr. Miagi earned him an Academy Award nomination and he deserved it.  Its such a great performance showcasing great control, timing, and strength.  When he nods to Daniel just before the legendary crane kick, its just incredibly.

How do they compare?  We, to be honest, they're very close in quality.  I still feel the remake goes a little too far in the final moments, becoming cheesy at the very last moment, but they each have great things about them.

Sweep the leg.

So good.  Still high on my best of the decade list.

Going to see Get Him To The Greek tomorrow. Can anyone tell me if I will be wasting my money?

Yes you will. If you want to see some Jonah Hill, go see Cyrus.

You go to Cyrus for the Riley, you go to Greek for the Brand, you go to Superbad for the Cera, you don't really go anywhere for the Hill.
Save your money and just rent the original, it's only a few years old, and the cast is much better, and the jokes are much funnier. It helps that the original is a mostly Britis cast/production too...

I did think Jonah Hill vas very good in Cyrus though.

OK forget Get Him to the Greek can't really stomach Brand. There's a Frank Oz film called Death at a Funeral looks interesting.

The White Ribbon (2009)
I'm now three Michael "Hannakah" films in and I'm just not sure he's a director for me. [...]Perhaps the film this most reminds me of in a certain tone is Closer...it is just chock full of miserable people being mean to each other not always with clear motivation other than being bad people. I detested that film and only a more interesting setting keeps me from having such strong feelings here. I may be slightly harsh here, there were moments here, but on the whole it just didn't quite work or add up to much. Just not enough payoff.
