I don't have much comment on the list. I guess the only thing people would reasonably expect me to respond to is the BttF vs Die Hard issue, which I don't care about anyway. I think people tend to take Back to the Future for granted, and on the flip side Die Hard is one of the two or three best examples of a genre, so it naturally sticks out more to people who create such lists, even when there is not a huge "personal" connection to it. Even for me, it's a Top 20 or 30 film. I think The Godfather is overrated, both in life and by the forum. I am actually surprised it has once again gotten the #1 spot. I don't feel like people tend to rally around The Godfather much around here, which makes it a bit unexpected for a #1. I think that otherwise, the list is as solid as any of the other lists. A ton of fun to read. A large number of the choices will be in my Essentials series, so I'll comment on them in more detail there. There are a few on the list that I don't like. Very few. Really only Lost in Translation, Mulholland Dr., Aguirre and Tree of Life. There are a few that I still have yet to see, and I really do need to rectify that. Other than that, I have not much to add, and any contribution from me in the form of a list would be so arbitrary that any skewing it would cause I would not be able to necessarily get behind anyway. Does it suck that Close Encounters didn't make the list? Sure, but I feel like that film is slowly being rediscovered by this forum for the amazing personal work of art that it is. In the meantime, I can't complain much about a list that has Raiders in the Top 10.
How's that for annotation?
