Everyone knows the best films are recent and American! ;D

My top three is in your top-20, SoF, so I can have no complaints. But I'm gonna pull out Black Hawk Down because that is a great film that isn't sufficiently appreciated.

The scale of both Reds and Black Hawk Down is very impressive and I love the characters in both. I think Reds is my favorite performance by Beatty.

And yeah, I just seem to connect more with recent films. A lot of these are from when I started getting into film, but even then, I'll watch an older film that is acclaimed and really appreciate the craft and even my emotional response will be one of admiration, but I sometimes just don't connect with them on the same level as I do something like Magnolia or American Beauty. Then an occasional film from the 40s or 30s comes along in my queue that I'm just smitten with like Children of Paradise or It Happened One Night.

As for non-English films. That is just a category I need to keep working on.

Great list, SoF!  You and I have so many similar that I'm not going to list them all here.  Pretty much everything you have would either make my top 200 or I'd seriously consider for the list.

First run through has the list at 270, and I haven't even though about starting to rank them.

I've collected and sorted my top 78. The last 22 will be pretty tricky - there's probably 80 or 90 films I could put in there, and that's not even considering the 10 or so films I really want to watch before I turn my list in.

Heh dang, I think half my top 100 is contained in your HM list! :D Here's hoping the other half is in your top 100 proper.
