Although I have been quite absent from the Boards lately...I have made it a personal commitment to continue pushing for Close Encounters to crack the top 100.

My list has not be updated in a while.  I think the only big change from last year is I have to figure out a way to squeeze True Grit in there.  Currently 96 - 100 are:

96 Aliens
97 Yi Yi
98 The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
99 Purple Rose of Cairo
100 Blade Runner (Final Cut)

Wow rough choice here...might have to dig deeper.

Well, we all know that Aliens is horrible. It should not be on anybody's list.

I have between 70 and 80 films "locked" and about 104 in contention. Obviously the latter might chuck a few of the former out. At present I've made instinctive labels of "Top 50" and "Top 100", from which I'll make approximate sets according to the ranking tier (it's not going to be fully ranked 1-100).

I'm gonna try and devise some kind of schedule so I might get through watching the majority of the contenders. 11 are on 'high priority' rental; three more are ready to stream. I own 90, either on DVD and VHS. I expect I'll be able to butcher a lot as I start to make my way through them, but as a starting point I'm keeeping an open mind.

Gosh. You guys are so incredibly serious about this. I feel totally like a fraud with my rather random list. But I'll blame my newbishness. I'll make a better effort for next year.

Fret not, Lobby! My lists are often mostly random. We're just glad you made a list.

Which films from last year's top 10 stay and appear in the upcoming top 10?  Which ones drop out from the top 10?  Bonus: post your prediction for spots 1 to 10.

Last year's top 10:

1. The Godfather
2. Casablanca
3. OUATITW (Leone)
4. ESOTSM (Gondry)
5. Singin' in the Rain
6. Pulp Fiction
7. Citizen Kane
8. Seven Samurai
9. Fargo
10. The Big Lebowski

I would wager that Fargo may have some upward mobility, based on where it's situated on my list, which I am still refining.  ;)
