* Nothing I outright loathe, but IMO The Matrix is rather undeserving.  Actually, the run of 74-72 (Aliens/BTTF/Matrix) is pretty meh.

How do you feel about sci-fi as a genre, in general?

(I think all three of those films were on my list somewhere).

Matrix is my least favorite so far too, and Brazil is close.

That said, I love Back to the Future and like Aliens

This was my year for Malick, so I put a couple on my top 100-- the two that have been included so far.   I'm happy to see as much Malick as will fit on the list.

My son has taken an interest in the top 100 this year and was really happy to see The Matrix and BttF on the list.  Frankly, these are classic action films-- along with Aliens and (the up and coming) Die Hard.  I think it makes our list less pretentious and more accessible.  And frankly, they are best examples of their genres (whatever genre BttF is...)

Very pleased to see Oldboy appear. I was surprised it wasn't on before. Can only wish Lady Vengeance gets a place. I think it's the better film. I doubt it tho.

No amount of action and genre can balance the pretentiousness of Malick. The rest of the countdown can be 70s slasher films and this would still be a pretentious list.

I loved Tree of Life.

I probably have to go watch New World again and force myself to love that one too. Which is what all us Malick fans do...just watch movies we hate and tell ourselves they are good  ;)
