5. I Fidanzati
6. Il Posto
These two are great and short, and similar enough in style that watching one will give you a decent idea of whether you'll like the other. I prefer Il posto since the main character's struggles are more relatable  to me, but I've seen people with the opposite opinion.

My Night at Maud's is one of Rohmer's best and definitely a must see, as are the two Satyajit Ray films on your list.

I'd be interested in seeing what you think of Ratcatcher, since I too hated Morvern Callar.

My own list of 26 unwatched in the top 500 is a mix of films I've been meaning to see, ones I've been avoiding and a few I've never heard of.

I like sdedalus adding "for you". Martin's seems more like a list of films I should watch because they're excellent, but picks like Jeanne Dielman… feel like asking for trouble.

That being said, Pierrot le fou is interesting to put at the top since I don't like Godard.

As for Beauty and the Beast, Martin's been rather clear about his hesitation towards that film based on his general opinion of 90s Disney and his love for the 1946 Cocteau version. That's why we all look past it and harp on him to watch Mary Poppins.

Though if I were to dictate a sure bet to Martin from that list, it would be Eureka.

Don't think of it as Godard, think of it as Bonnie & Clyde.

Pierrot le fou and A Woman is a Woman are probably his easiest films to like.  The two films where his sheer joy in making movies is most evident.

-12 films from my list
-haven't seen 21 of the 100
-somewhat interested in seeing 2 of them (It's a Wonderful Life and Tree of Life)

A fun way to look at the list is if you divide points by number of votes and trim off any film that only received a single vote. When you sort the result what you get is a list that reflects how well-loved a film is when it manages to crack a filmspotters' top 100s.

For example the number one film is Long Day Closes, and Spirited Away tops The Godfather. Kind of neat. It's a look at how well loved a film is by those who love it, and it isn't necessary for many people to have seen it to make the list (just 2).

Here's the list

Anyways, I thought that was kind of cool.
