400 Blows is a film from the French New Wave, but I don't know if it's a prime example. I won't pretend to know the general style points that make up the French New Wave, but 400 Blows doesn't seem to fit in. I hope I'm not just saying that because I'm not a fan of French New Wave and this is my #79 of All Time.

Nouvelle vague is one of the least clearly defined movements in terms of a specific style.  I don't think you could designate a "prime example" of the French New Wave that encompasses all of its parts.  It's just a reaction to classical cinema forms and various attempts to break the rules.

I basically just meant that whenever it is brought up, typically the first film mentioned is this one.

Great review orgy of praise for 8 1/2.  Awesome film that deserves the allocates.

As for your review of (500), I posted on your blog.

8 1/2 is pointless. The emperor has no clothes.

kidding, of course

I did like 8 1/2 more on my 2nd viewing. Perhaps after a dozen more I'll say more good things about it. I love that the film remains a slam dunk for many film fanatics. Like one of the Top 10 essentials for loving both film and film craft. But there are a few. Not just me and Bondo but zarodinu. It won the poll for least favorite masterpiece. All of which does nothing but provide comfort for the few of us.

Adaptation. (2002)

Quote
This was a film I saw for the first time not too long ago and was totally taken by it. The day after I watched it I purchased it on DVD. Since that initial viewing, I had not watched it since. Well, now I have revisited it . . .
