From my own list:

   2   Naomi Watts      Mulholland Drive
   3   Peter Finch      Network
9   Malcolm MacDowell      A Clockwork Orange
   12   William Holden      Network
   32   Barbara Stanwyck      Double Indemnity
34   Cary Grant      North By Northwest
52   Henry Fonda      12 Angry Men
   72   Victor Sjostrom      Wild Strawberries
76   Bruce Campbell      Evil Dead 2

With a few more I considered. Nice list. Some very unexpected picks.

   38   Kurt Russell      The Thing

Whoa whoa whoa! Where did this come from? It's so different from the others and it seems less substantial somehow... and yet here it is. I'd never thought of it as a one of those "great" performances before nor seen anybody else suggest that it is. I'm not sayin' it's not worthy, but I need an explaination. :)

Shush until you give me my Conspiracy review! 8)

but seriously, I realised how far The Thing had come in my eyes from being a film I dreaded seeing again because the effects were so gruesome to standing alongside Alien (and now The Losers;D) as having the best ensemble casts. Wilford Brimley (who nearly got on this list for ten seconds in Absence of Malice), Dysart, Keith David, David Clennon and on make this a crackling paranoia thriller whilst this eyeballs out horror nightmare is happening all around. However when I thought about it, it is Russell who brings it all together, not because he becomes the leader type- they suspect him for half the film, but because he fights harder than anybody else, no room for any of that humour you get in other Carpenter roles (I also rate him for Tequila Sunrise as well).

I don't know what you think of the film, but if I think of it in terms being in Alien's class then it can't go much higher for me.
I used to encourage everyone I knew to make art; I don't do that so much anymore. - Banksy

Lovely work Martin. I like that you have 2 Eli Wallach, he so often is the forgotten one of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. What is The Lineup like?

Thanks, sounds interesting. Not surprising the extreme evil of the drug dealers, for the time.
