It's true, Another Year, brief though it may be is just as powerful. Also I get a little bored listing the same performances every year, if there's something equal in power but newer it trumps the old. At least this year it does.  :)

Sorry noff just don't remember Staunton in it. Time for a rewatch of a great film, what a chore! Oh the bit at the start - oh yeah with ya now.

62   Michael Gambon - The Cook, the Thieh, his Wife and Her Lover
85   Campbell Scott - Roger Dodger
94   Aurelien Recoing - Time Out

Excellent performances that don't get talked about enough, IME.  Rossellini in Roger Dodger, too.

21. Ines Efron - XXY
Katie Dickie – Red Road

Again, superlative work that more people need to see.

An Ines Efron film that you might be interested in is Glue.  Three teens experimenting with sex.  A bit of a slog in parts especially the voiceovers of which there is a lot of.  But stunning cinematography.  Posted a bunch of screencaps in the Best of Decade thread for cinematography.

13. Rebecca De Mornay - The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
14. Angela Bassett - Strange Days

Very talented actresses in my book.  I dig those.

59. Abbie Cornish—Bright Star
51. Madeline Kahn—What’s Up Doc?

Love Cornish's snark in the first half or thereabouts of the film.  Overall, a finely modulated emotional performance.  Cornish did this weird dance in Somersault (a film that flieger dictated to me way back for MDC) that I can't get out of my head.  Weird but fantastic.

And I'm lovin' the Madeline Kahn love.  One of the great movie comediennes.

re: Harriet Andersson

Such a marvelous physical talent.  She's in Cries and Whispers for about 5-10 minutes, but the physicality of it is searing.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. I watched The Fish Child, the follow up by the same director of XXY that also stars Ines Efron and it was interesting but rather messier.

Thanks for reminding me; I keep forgetting to place The Fish Child near the top of my queue.  I'll change that after logging off.  Back to Glue, the teens actually acting out their curiosity and desire is only a small part of the running time, if I'm not misremembering.  The voiceovers, I wasn't suprised to find out, where written largely by the actors.  The voiceovers could've been written better.  At the same time, they do sound like the thoughts of broody teens.  But sometimes closely reflecting how people can be is less interesting than not.

You express Cornish's character so well. I wish I could come up with phrases like,  "finely modulated emotional performance".  :)

It's very likely that I got that phrase or something similar from someone else.  It's the only way I can write decently.  :)
