Get your books ready! We start this in a few days!

Boxing day in Canada today. I'm definitely picking up some more to add to the marathon.

-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

Two more books added to the collection:

Hush, by Jack Loeb, art by Jim Lee

Tales of the Batman, from Don Newman. It's basically a collection of stories from the late 70s into 1980.

So here is how I shall be approaching the marathon:

1- I'll read the books in chronological order of publication so as to have a solid idea of how exactly Batman has evolved throughout the years.

2-Reviews will appear once every couple weeks. 1 per week is never going to work with the sort of schedule I have and waiting more than 2 weeks between books might give the marathon a pace that is too slack. If I realize that the pace is too slow (there's more of a likely of that happening than the pace being too fast) will quicken things up with, say, 1 review per week. The first review come up early next week.

3-The reviews will try, at least, to express what I thought of the stories themselves, the artwork, and how well written the characters are, in particular Batman. Word of caution, I've never written about comics before, so things might be messy at first. After a while I'll most likely have a good feeling for what sort of Batman I myself like most. What I'm saying is by the end of this I'll be a Batman snob.

4-Pictures are nice, but I don't know how many I'll be able to post. Cover artwork seems like the simplest thing to attach to articles, although screen for individual pages or frames won't be easy.

5-Just in case anybody is wondering, I am trying to get my hands on issues in a legal manner as much as I can. Over the past 3 months I've bought about 10 books (some of which contain multiple stories. I'm guessing I own about 30 stories or so). There will some instances when a story or series won't be readily available (I'm thinking about those 60s and 70s stories of which I haven't seen many in books stores). Maybe I'll get some of those through tor-well, you know. But again, I'd rather not do that. It's a last case scenario.

6-Admittedly, I haven't put much thought into how others could participate. If it so happens that you have read the book I post a review for, please share comments. Reviews for books in the same run as the one I read are welcomed too since that would be keeping in spirit with the era the marathon is dealing with. If there are some who have reviews they really want to publish, even if the story is decades away, I won't stop you from doing so, although I might not read the review just yet since I want to go on my personal decade by decade journey.

Stay tuned for a list of books that are definitely in the marathon (cause I bought them, duh).

I hope you tag along for the ride!

I tried to get a few batman books at B& N yesterday but they didn't have any of the ones I was looking for. I thought that books like Hush and The Long Halloween were popular enough to be there, but no.

That blows. The two stores in downtown Mtl have a billion copies of Long Halloween. They even have it in this hardcover edition that literally costs 100$ or so!

Have you got a running order yet? I downloaded the first of the Hush storyline, quite subdued art for Jim Lee (who I like). However, I looked at a couple of pages from the first issue of Year One. It just occurred to me that, apart from being a terrific story, it represents another Batman origin story (some similarities to Batman Begins not too many), so, for that reason I am suggesting it as a starting point. I'll either dig out my original issues (not Detective 407 on, but a mini series reprint) or get them downloaded through the DC app.

If you have an idea of your reading order, it might be fun to play along.
I used to encourage everyone I knew to make art; I don't do that so much anymore. - Banksy

Perhaps they were just out of stock. Typically B&N has those books.
