This is perhaps the most interesting list to date. I love nearly all the choices, yet it shows a narrow field of vision. This probably speaks more to my snobby broadening range then to any of your selections. I have no scorn for anyone who puts Takeshi Kitano at #12 and Alex Gibney is an inspired choice. Albert & Allen Hughes is perhaps the most questionable inclusion. (Where did they go?) I'd also like to read some of your reviews for Albert Brooks films since he's all the way up at #4.

God, I realize my submission will be comprised heavily of obscure picks like Pasolini and Kiarostami.

a narrow field of vision.

I just went with favorites. Sure, Altman, Hitchcock, Chaplin would have been better picks, but I don't have the enthusiasm for their works/abilities as I do these other guys. And where Fernando Meirelles or Kim Ji-woon might have been more inspired picks, having only seen three films from each, I don't think I can safely call them "favorites" yet. (Though I've dug everything I've seen from them so far.)

Albert & Allen Hughes is perhaps the most questionable inclusion. (Where did they go?)

They made a bad FALLOUT 3 knockoff and then tried unsuccessfully to adapt AKIRA. This pick was based mostly on my (misplaced?) belief in their talent. Given the right project, I think they still have a chance to blow everyone away.

I'd also like to read some of your reviews for Albert Brooks films since he's all the way up at #4.

He has not made a film that I have not liked: a perfect 7/7.

God, I realize my submission will be comprised heavily of obscure picks like Pasolini and Kiarostami.

I believe this is what the kids call a humblebrag.

I put a 4 film minimum on my list (the list would look significantly different and more interesting if I used a 3 film minimum, but there is always next year). My 3 favorite movies from the director are written on the side and if you have a slow internet connection I apologize.
