What is meant exactly by Rob “Timing” Reiner, oldkid? Timing in history, comedic timing, or something else? I've seen the most of the films but I'm missing the connection.

7. Gus “Arthouse” Van Sant
Milk; Elephant; Paranoid Park; My Own Private Idaho

8. Terry “Art Chaos” Gilliam
Tideland ;Brazil; Monty Python and the Holy Grail; The Fisher King; And Now For Something Completely Different

Arthouse and Art Chaos? I lolled. I'll always make them a couple from now on!
it's a very entertaining and fun list. You certainly managed to add a bit of extra to it.

Thanks, everyone!

I know that Reiner reads through the scenes with the actors before he films it.  He wants the pacing and the timing between the characters to be just so, I think, because of his work as a comedian.  So whether it be When Harry Met Sally or A Few Good Men, the correct timing in dialogue makes for full impact.

Perhaps Van Sant is "Art Simplicity"?

Thanks to all of you that have already sent in ballots. Anyone still working on a list, please try and send in your ballots by tomorrow evening at the latest. We'd like to use Sat night to finalize the list and get ready for Sunday's presentation.

You'll get Hitch eventually. Once that stubborn resistance of youth falls away. btw it's "Surprise or Suspense"

The first word I put was "suspense", and then I settled on "surprise".  But you are certainly right:  it's either/or/and/both.
My head's full of Hitch quotes from the book (I can't seem to finish). In his matter of fact way he said you could either sustain a mystery element in a story as a surprise later on or reveal it early and play on the suspense of knowing what might happen. He seemed to think it was either one or the other.
