James Bond 007: Best M
« on: November 07, 2011, 04:59:57 PM »
M has only been portrayed by 3 actors throughout the length of the series. The only episode that did not feature the head of MI6 was For Your Eyes Only. Well, actually there was a fourth, Edward Fox, who portrayed the character in the unofficial Bond film Never Say Never Again. Whose version did you like best?

Bernard Lee (11) - Dr. No through Moonraker

Robert Brown (4) - Octopussy through Licence to Kill

Edward Fox (1) - Never Say Never Again

Judi Dench (6) - GoldenEye through Quantum of Solace

Corndog - what about Edward Fox in Never Say Never Again?
Kevin: Yes, why does there have to be evil?

Supreme Being: I think it has something to do with free will.

-------------------------------------------------------

Verna: I suppose you think you raised hell.

Tom: Sister, when I've raised hell you'll know it.

Also, my vote is going to Judi Dench. Her M has always been more involved and much more human, although I obviously cannot say enough about the contribution of Bernard Lee to the series and the character. Not an easy call between the two.

Dench came in and owned it. Looking back at the other M's they are like a bunch of stuffy old bureaucrats. Exactly the type of person you'd expect to run the whole thing, and so, quite boring.

Ditto what smirnoff said.

Dench is awesome. I also like the idea of Bond having to report to a woman.

I loved all the Ms, but Dench turned a walk on part into a fully-formed role. Can't wait to see what she does in Skyfall. Dench as M is Mrs. 1SO's favorite character from the 6 Bonds she's seen.

Bond calls her Mum sometimes right? Is that akin to calling a guy governor? What are the boundaries of these Britishisms? When do you use them? When is it inappropriate>?

This. It's the accent.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.
