It was certainly the grittiest.

Refresh my memory, who engages whom?

Can't make the link work on my iPad but if you type in "woman in the dunes scene" on YouTube it's the first result.

He is wiping sand off her, she starts getting grabby in the process. They engage each other

The music is VERY present in the sex scene, and ominous. I don't remember the context... why the negative overtones? Is sex how she traps him?

ps. I agree with jrod about 1 a week, for the same reasons.

I think it is considered negative from his point of view.  Not only is he being seduced into a sexual encounter, but he is giving up seeking a way out.  To give into sex is to surrender into a lifestyle, one he had been fighting up until this point.

That's some powerful sex.

 :)

I think that's a lot of sex.   The desire for sex leads to relationship, relationship leads to commitment, commitment to children.  Or sex leads to children, whatever.  No matter what, one's life is different.  Every act of sex has the potential to be life-changing, to be the turning point of all that comes after.  And, more likely than not, no matter how wild the sex, how unreserved or abandoned, in the end it is taming, stifling, controlling.  Thus is the paradox and magic of sex.  And I think it is really well described in this film.
