I'm guessing the reason why the most influential female director of all time (Leni Riefenstahl) didn't make the list is because I'm the only one who is immoral enough to vote for someone who worked alongside the Nazi party.  :P

Whoops.  Ctrl-F failed me.

Edit: haha, no it didn't... I was looking at LAST year's list.  My brain failed me.

Speaking of which, I wonder where they placed, and if Mel Brooks was higher.

Curtis Hanson was the only 1 of my list of 10 that didn't make it.

I guess we can't have any fun, quality filmmaking on the list, just boring old stuff.

12 of the top 20 are still actively working, so I'm not so sure about "old stuff".

Besides, Nolan placed #25 which is pretty damn high.

Christopher Nolan has 5 of his 7 features in the top 120 over at imdb. How's that for deference to disauthority. His spot last year seemed much more appropriate. Also, revise it to boring/old. 5 of the top 6 are on my list though and 5 of my top 6 are in the top-40. I'm not really complaining about that.

Anyway, I don't think anybody has posted more from their ballot that missed the list than I'm about to with 25 (and that's after a late change that removed two that would have missed the list and added two that made it).

5. Andrea Arnold
8. Edgar Wright
10. Martin McDonagh
11. Kevin Smith
12. M. Night Shyamalan
14. Joe Wright
15. Gaspar Noé
16. Tomas Alfredsson
17. Jason Reitman
19. Denys Arcand
20. Morgan Spurlock
21. Hirokazu Koreeda
22. John Cameron Mitchell
23. Gurinder Chadha
24. Makato Shinkai
26. Matt Stone and Trey Parker
29. Baz Luhrmann
30. Jean-Pierre Jeunet
31. Debra Granik
35. Mel Brooks
38. Curtis Hanson
41. Tom Tykwer
42. Rob Reiner
43. Kim Ki-Duk
45. Ashutosh Gowariker

The red highlighted ones are the ones that fell off from last year. Something happened in the past year about Kevin Smith because suddenly when Red State came out it seemed like everyone hated all his films all of a sudden. I mean, I'm used to the M. Night hate but Smith hate was new to me. Obviously I've got a fair few people on there with <5 features, not who I really would expect to make the list. Certainly the Wrights would seem to be candidates as would Koreeda and John Cameron Mitchell. I'm not sure if Denys Arcand is largely unseen or simply not as appreciated.

Anyway, Mike Leigh should be at least 10 spots higher. Rian Johnson/Lynne Ramsay/Kelly Reichardt should be 10 spots lower/off the list. If my directors with limited filmographies can't make it, no one's should.

ZAZ had just one vote which came from mañana. Mel Brooks had two votes but neither of them actually was close to making it to be honest.

The 10 that just lost out are as follows:

Carax, Leos
de Sica, Vittorio
Loach, Ken
Resnais, Alain
Tati, Jacques
Wright, Edgar
Pasolini, Pier Paolo
Forman, Milös
Mizoguchi, Kenji
Cassavetes, John
