Tom Wolfe writes like he's selling a miracle elixir. I've never read a book that used this many exclamation points.

It's a very defined idea he is trying to sell isn't it? Spacemen are pioneering heroes of the sky, not monkeys!(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I'm hoping to finish this sometime in the near future.

How are you doing with Anna Karenina, jrod? I read it last year and fell absolutely in love with Tolstoy.

How is this?  I recall a pretty mixed/negative reaction from the Dave Kehr snooty film critic cabal.

Quote from: wiki
The main literary criticism against Starship Troopers is that it is nothing more than a vehicle for Heinlein's political views.

Is that supposed to be a bad thing?  :D

Nobody writes "politics" like Heinlein.

This book has been in my Amazon wishlist forever, but I haven't bought it yet.  You will have to let me know if it is worth getting.

Should I sit down to read Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals, or start the year off by starting to catch up with Skakespeare? And if Shakespeare, which one? (All are fair game)

My top 3 Shakespeare are Macbeth, Hamlet, and Richard II. In that order. They all have great films to go along with them. Team of Rivals is non-fiction and therefore stupid.

What Junior meant to say was that his three favorite Shakespeare plays are Richard III, Julius Caesar, and Othello.

(And that they're all superior to THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH.)

One of the greatest pieces of science fiction I have ever read. And the "politics" are the whole point!
