I don't know anyone well enough other that Heinlein, and even with him I've only read maybe 10-15% of his work.

Come now, a famed seafarer such as yourself must have read at least a little Rand McNally in his day.

I seen a ship goes by that name. A fine ol' clipper she was too... before I sank 'er.

Which of Haruki Murakami's books would be good to start with?

1. Madeleine Brent
2. Charlotte Brontë
3. Jane Austen
4. Madeleine L'Engle
5. Robin McKinley
6. Megan Whalen Turner
7. Shannon Hale
8. J.K. Rowling
9. L.M. Montgomery
10.  (I'm leaving this open for the author I haven't met yet.)

Oh look, all women! (except Brent)  Once again, my list is the polar opposite of AAAutin's.  :D

Oh, why didn't I include Rowling? Addenda: Rowling, Roberto Bolaño.

I think The Wind-up Bird Chronicle would be a nice place to start with Murakami. It's a longer work that sinks you into his world of recurring tropes.

Thanks tiny, I'm going to the library today and will see if they have it. Are you in L.A.?

Nope, still in Toronto, probably until early March now. It's too bad that I didn't buy winter boots in anticipation of being in LA!
