omg Stereolab is blowing my mind. Anyone here a fan?

Yep, I've got their entire catalog, I think.  Dots and Loops is my favorite.

Awesome. Funny thing... I tried out Emperor Tomato Ketchup some years back and was very "meh" about it.

Then just this month some music-releated discussion opened the door for me to revisit Stereolab again... and holy shit :o

This kind of a blah-to-wow turn for me has only happened once before (with Arcade Fire's Funeral), so this is a big thing for me.

I love their sound, though I feel like they sound very samey across their albums that I've heard (Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements, Mars Audiac Quintet, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, Dots and Loops) - almost always that indiepop-meets-krautrock sort of sound.

I think I still need some help distinguishing what makes their individual albums sound distinct and successful in their own right. Care to share what you think makes Stereolab's releases - the 90's albums at least - distinct from each other (well, if you feel that I'm wrong about them sounding same, that is)?

New Kendrick is better than "i" but not by much. Watching these two tracks crumble under expectations (of an album that was good but come on, not that great) has been fun so far.

This may be of interest to no one except me (and maybe oldkid), but Mark Kozelek puts out way too many live albums.  Right now in my iTunes I've got:

Find Me, Ruben Olivares
Little Drummer Boy
Live at Biko
Live at Lincoln Hall
Live at Mao Livehouse Shanghai & Beijing
Live at Palladium Malmö
Live at Phoenix Public House Melbourne
Live at Union Chapel & Sodra Teatern
Live at Victoria Teatern And Stenhammarsalen
Live in Copenhagen
Lost Verses Live
Nights LP (about 1/3 live)
White Christmas Live
7 Songs Belfast

I mean, I like his live stuff and there are differences from the studio versions, but at this point they're all blurring together.  I can't see myself ever choosing to listen to one of these, because I'd have to listen to each one a dozen times to remember which is which (gee, which of the five live versions of "Mistress" is my favorite?).  And yet, I can't bear to just delete them either.

So is there one or two live albums that you would recommend above others?  I'd like to explore that, but you are right, that is simply too many.

White Christmas Live stands out, maybe because it was the first.  Also it's got "Wop-a-Din-Din" which is my favorite Kozelek song.  The others are a blur to me.  They're all of good sound quality, so I would pick the ones that have the most appealing setlists to you.

I really need to put the Kozelek solo albums and the SKM albums on heavy rotation so I can get better acquainted with them.  I know "You Missed My Heart" is standing out as a really great song.  And I'm pretty familiar with "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" now.

Tidal Streaming?  Why not, it is a step in the right direction.

Ah yeah!

Always good to come across fellow Thrice fans. I'm going to see Dustin with Andy Hull later this month.

You can plug a hole in your CV by go and see Bob Dylan at the Ohio Theatre on May 16, Corndog!
