Filmspotting - we have a problem
« on: May 22, 2012, 11:01:30 PM »
Hi there,

I hate to write this. I've been a listener for years. Every Friday I'd download the latest episode and smile with glee. Filmspotting for me has always been about appreciating movies and a sense of joy.

But week after recent week, I've listened. Wanted to enjoy, wanted to be happy. But the fun has gone - for me anyways.

I recognize that replacing the insanity that was Matty was unlikely. There was something anarchic in those shows!

But it's all become so serious. I listened to an episode from a year ago and was shocked. Adam's voice seem's to have dropped.

Guys, please relax. Adam you were always the serious of the two with Matty. With Josh.....

Never forget that films are joyous and fun.

Rob

Personally I havent noticed any drop off. Arguements over Avengers and To Kill a Mockingbird where especially fun. We also got to hear the guys pan a big main stream release that the previous regime might not have watched (Dark Shadows). The occasional visits from Michael Phillips is a pleasent addition as well. Plus, we get an entirely new show every two weeks.

I find it hard to complain about the state of the show right now.

Yes, the show is different. It was different after the other host left too. Oh well.

I'm having as much fun recording the show right now as I've ever had.

What Jared said.

I think the show has improved a lot in the last few episodes. As Josh and Adam have become more used to each other and a tighter team, they can also allow themselves to relax and be more casual. It feels as if there's a little bit more of improvisation and less of reading ready notes aloud. You can also really hear that they have fun doing this, and this makes the show more fun to listen to.

There have been quite a few disagreements, but that makes it even better. After the somewhat unfortunate start with the We Need to Talk about Kevin episode, the show is back on track again. And if the positive trend continues, who knwos where it will end?

Just another voice for "I think it's still great." It was an adjustment after Sam left; it was an adjustment after Matty left. In both cases, I was adjusted to the new host even faster than I expected to be. And I'm loving the monthly addition of Michael Phillips--those are some of my favorite shows of your entire catalog (which, yes, I have heard from the beginning). Not just because he's fun to listen to, but because the three of you together are even better than any two. I guess I'm a sucker for the ensemble casting.

My only current complaint would be that SVU isn't in its own feed. I don't mind it, but for me it's not as interesting as the main show, so I would rather see it have its own feed. I realize you wanted to start them off on the main feed to get people to take a listen, but I'm hoping that at some point soon they'll fledge. It's a minor complaint, though.

SVU now has it's own feed in iTunes. :)

I made it part of our feed primarily because SVU was always setup as a 12-episode trial.

I just knew as soon as I clicked "Post" that I probably should have double-checked to see if they were off on their own now. :)

To me the only difference is I disagree with Josh's tastes more than I did with Matty's.  But my enjoyment of the show hasn't diminished one bit.

If I could change one thing?  Get the show released earlier on Thursday!  I d/l shows first thing in the morning and listen to them at work.  Friday is a big podcast day, it'd be nice to move one of those to my Thursday listening (which is usually pretty light, especially if the WTF guest is someone I don't care about).

I listened to a few of the bonus content pieces on the app. The conversation has a chance to be more expansive there, and I think it showed where the partnership is going to go. People need to give things a chance, i.e. more than a couple of episodes.

Also SVU works very well as an adjunct to the main show, and they are a great pair, so I hope it continues past the trial stage.
