Open City and Les dames du Bois de Boulogne for Non-English language film (and other categories) absolutely.

Of the others none are essential but 'I Know Where I'm Going!' is probably pretty close. I like some others a lot but they're not absolutely necessary.
My Name Is Julia Ross is on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x26RC_gJ80s
so is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6KB-ABbuBA
Maybe some others as well.

The Clock I think is essential. One of Vincente Minnelli's best films.

And The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail is the least-known great film by Akira Kurosawa.

I went through some lists of 1945 movies and these are the ones I can't access online.  Are there films here that are absolutely necessary to view?

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is my favorite of the year, so I'm going to call that essential :)

Among the others, I recommend (in descending order of essential-ness):

Yolanda and the Thief
Cornered
My Name Is Julia Ross
I Know Where I'm Going!
Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne
Conflict

Thank you, men.  At least 3 more to add to my list, though I don't know how to see them.  I'll do some research and keep an eye open for when those are available.

I watched Rome Open City and it shot to the top of my ranking.  Thanks, roujin!

Also A Tree Grows in Brooklyn which is now a favorite of mine.  While watching, I remembered I had read the book as a young girl.  Thanks, Peaceful Anarchy and MartinTeller!

Looking forward to I Know Where I'm Going!. Plus, I found some 1945 films on youtube by doing a search.

Can't find a reasonable streaming of The Clock or The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail.

Also unavailable are Yolanda and the Thief, Cornered, I Know Where I'm Going! and Conflict.

I would like to thank everyone who told me to watch Ivan the Terrible.  I can't remember when I've had a better watching experience ... seriously.

What do we do about the second part of Ivan the Terrible ? Clearly, if we ever do the 1958 filmspots, it wouldn't be eligible there, so... it should be eligible here right ? But should it be as a separate film, or just merged with the first one ? They were meant to be a single film initially I think.

They're separate films, intended to be part of a trilogy. Part II would be either part of the 1946 or 1958 Filmspots, so we're okay for now. (I'm pretty sure Part I should be in 1944, but we're trusting IMDb.)

I'm glad nobody's tried to sneak the original cut of The Big Sleep into 1945. ;)
