I am no longer accepting ballots. Going to start putting the list together. Totoro, I was able to grab your top ten from the other animation thread but unfortunately anything beyond that isn't going to get in. Sorry.

Anyway, very happy about the 33 ballots.

The ballots are all counted and the list ready to go. If people are around and interested, I'll do this chat countdown style at 7pm EDT/4pm PDT.

As a warm up, here are some reviews from Amazon and IMDB.

Spirited Away
"THERE IS NO STORY HERE! Nothing makes any sense at all. The characters never come to life in any way that makes any sense, the goal of the heroine never becomes apparent, and you're left waiting for the end. After one hour of complete and utter misery, we fast-forwarded and were very glad we did, because the ending also makes no sense! So WHY WATCH IT? and why do people rave on and on about it? I think one reviewer has hit the nail on the head: people are only pretending to like it because they think it makes them sound intellectual. On a scale from one to ten, we rate it a ZERO, but if you could take the scale and actually drop it on the movie, and destroy it, that might be entertaining!"

The Incredibles
"If you want to take down The Man, this is not the movie for you. If you want to laugh along with the rest of the johnny every-men, and then drink some crazy cool heavily advertised sody-pop and then black out and wake up the next morning In Bed With The Man...then this is your movie! Marginal cleverness in a first world country should not be applauded. This was marketed to kids and adults alike but the premise set up in the first few minutes was so weak as to put off anyone who has every been stuck in a waiting room and had to read just one copy of the American Bar Journal. We all know that a spate of joe-blows suing superheros whom the governement depends upon is ridiculous. That would get legislated so fast it would make Jack McCoy's head spin. The whole thing was a big love-fest to the conventional, couched in catchy new upholstry. It did not fool me but it probably will you. "

Toy Story
"I found this amusing for about no minutes whatsoever. Gaudy bit of CGI fluff pretending to be a "children's classic" - only in the dreams of the cynical and the dead."

My Neighbor Totoro
"This is probably the most over rated film from Miyazaki, the uber over rated Japanese anime director. Its all done in a pastel tone animated style that looks like an a painting by a first grader, yet some of the backgrounds do have a certain charm to them. There is no edge, conflict, sense of menace or real emotion or drama in this pablum coated film to engage the audience. Even a 3 year old would become bored-fast. "

@1SO:  Notwithstanding the fact that you may be the most uber over rated filmspotter ever, you just gave me the title of my next essay - "The Dreams of the Cynical and the Dead."   ;)

In frustration I've entertained similar theories.

Not in regards to Spirited Away of course.
