For some reason, IMDB is now listing this as 1973, it used to be listed as 1974. Which it should be because the bulk of it was aired in 1974.

Original run: 31 October 1973 – 8 May 1974.

How do we treat that?

It's a 26 episode documentary, each episode was 50 minutes long. The bulk of the documentary was shown in 1974. Only 9 of the 26 episodes were aired in 1973, leaving 17 to be aired in 1974. It should be treated as being 1974.

I'd say since it was completed and began airing in '73, it should be '73.
