mousterpiece hasn't seen Seven Samurai, and that's unfathomable, so it shall be rectified.

I would like to dictate that tjwells watch Three Outlaw Samurai

It isn't Netflix availible because of the Criterion/Netflix issues, so if you cant get to that one substitute with Harakiri

Sorry, fellas.

I am dropping out.

I just dropped Hulu+ because of my school's library. If I didn't discover it, I would still be doing this. Damn you, college!  :P

The Twilight Samurai (2002)

Ive had this sitting in my Instant Queue for awhile, and finally got around to it thanks to MDc.

Hiroyuki Sanada plays a samurai named Seibei Iguchi, jokingly called "the Twilight Samurai" by his companions. His wife has recently passed away and he is left with his two children and one of his eldery parents. Basically because of his newfound responsibilities he has to leave earlier than his coworkers, hence the nickname.

Going into the film, I was thinking that it would be a bit more of an action thing but that isnt really the case here. We follow the Twilight Samurai around as he juggles his life. Matters get more complicated when he begins to develop romantic chemistry with his friend's sister, a wife getting battered by her husband. The film does build to a satisfying conclusion and generally works pretty well. Anyways, I liked it quite a bit, although it isnt nearly as action packed as any of the other dictated films this month. A pleasent suprise.

TTS was a wonderful character piece and very thoughtful.  It's in my top 250.
