Life changes since I came to the forum...
« on: January 02, 2013, 08:51:49 AM »
I have been at this forum since 2006 and have undergone several life changes.

1. We sold our Texas house and live on the road or with my son's family while we are in the US.

2. We sold our Perth home on the west coast of Australia and moved to an apartment in Brisbane on the east coast of Australia where we live the other half year.

3. We fully retired after John sold his business though he still works for that business as a contractor, so I guess not fully retired, but as close to that as we'll ever get.

4. We will welcome our second grandchild into our family any moment now.

I'd love to hear about your life changes, the ones you want to share.

Only really started posting at the start of 2010 so I'll use that.

1. Started posting, lost job.
2. Watched a ton of films for two years.
3. Moved to Fargo and got a new job.

1. Graduated College, started Grad School.
2. Discovered I had Celiac disease (Wheat intolerance).

That's about it.

1. Convinced the CEO of Landmark Theatres to let me run my own repertory series (career goal #1), which I did for five years, even after I

2. Moved from management at that ugly, mediocre multiplex to a gorgeous 90 year old theatre (career goal #2) only to see it bought out from under us within six months of my arrival

3. But that's OK, because I retired and became a full-time stay-at-home dad when our daughter was born

4. And now Kid #2 is less than three months away and I won't have time to watch or write about movies ever again

My wife lost her job at the end at the school year, and a few months before that her therapist dropped her because she wasn't following his advice.  She has neither a new job nor a new therapist yet.  She has major depression/anxiety/hostility issues that are blowing up due to lack of medication.  Things are pretty rough, to make an understatement.  We're making some progress on the therapist front, but it's been an amazingly frustrating process.

Other than that, however, my life is pretty much the same as it was when I joined.

Sorry to hear things still are so rough Martin.

I joined the forum in the summer 2011. I can't say particularly much has happened in my life since apart from my oldest daughter moving away from home. It feels strange to rapidly approach the day when none of our children lives with us anymore. Time to get a dog I reckon...

Me too Martin. Here for you, even if it's only empathetic support.

sdedalus! Did I know this and had forgotten, or is this new news for the forum? Congratulations! And, I'm afraid you may be right. :)

Took some film classes for a year and decided I like Filmspotting School better and am finding that most of my Life Changes are happening internally by way of films that have been introduced to me here.

Scenes From a Marriage
Intouchables
Black Narcissus
Ikiru
Secrets and Lies
Another Year
Matter of Life and Death
Wings of Desire
Faces
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
To Live
Amélie

... and so forth.

The power of film

Can't forget
the life changing music I've received as well!

Arcade Fire
The Smiths
Pink Floyd
Velvet Underground
Derek Trucks Band
Nick Drake
Sandy Denny
Suede
McAlmont and Butler
Iron and Wine
Sly & The Family Stone
Radiohead

Just to name a few

Pregnancies sure fly by when they're not my own.  :)

Since I started posting in fall of 2007 -

1) Had child #3, January 2009

2) Bought our first house, December 2012

Not too many big changes, I guess, but both good 'uns!

My first post is from June 2006. A few weeks later, I graduated from university. Since then:

Started job.
Lost job.
Started new job.
Moved.

The move was almost exactly two years ago, and there have been no major changes since. I'd be in the mood for one - guess I'll have to make it happen!
