Top 5 movies about redemption
« on: February 09, 2013, 05:59:54 PM »
I just started listening to the podcast and didn't see a thread for this older topic. Just wanted to mention a film that I thought of immediately but wasn't mentioned.

I guess the absent father trying to redeem himself is a rather large cliche in film ( just watched and liked Wild Bill ) but I think that near the top of my list would be the Royal Tennenbaums. The story of Royal saving his family from the "sinking ship" is one of my favorite films and the moment Richie returns the Havalena to it's place on the wall is great. Always gives me a wry smile.

I'm in the middle of The Mission and there's a very good redemption story in it.

No I did listen to it. I just wanted to chime in on a possible omission that I thought of. Didn't see a thread.

I just watched Wild Bill on Netflix. I think Thought it was pretty good actually.

The Lives of Others / Das Leben der Anderen - brilliant depiction of a Stasi code-number (HGW/XX7), dehumanised and utterly lacking in empathy, brought 'back to life' by experiencing the lives of others, and ultimately becoming 'a good man'.

Fantastic Mr. Fox, obvi.

Ash: He redeemed himself.
Fox: Redemption? Sure. But in the end, he's just another dead rat in the garbage pail behind a Chinese restaurant.
