Is the last one worth it as a movie that's so bad it's good? I was thinking of going with friends to group watch it.

Hmm, I think you could making a drinking game out of it and have some fun, but that's probably better suited for a home screening. And it's such a noisy movie that it doesn't really leave to room to laugh at its campier elements.

That article inspired this marathon, where we learned Retribution is a major reward for those who go through the entire series.

Actually, this is his article from the other week, basically declaring The Final Chapter Anderson's masterpiece.

Well I have now seen Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and it will not be replacing Resident Evil as the best of Mr Anderson's (Hugo Weaving says that name in my head every time) films. It is better than Resident Evil: Retribution, but that is a very low bar to jump, more jumping a hole in the ground. So the latest one drops a lot of the fights with the beasties and instead is more about dealing with the bad people. It has heaps of plot holes, but still Milla kicks arse, although she does appear to be slowing down a bit. Some very good scenery and cinematography and a pumping soundtrack for the opening.

Event Horizon (1997) — Finally watched this on account of its being referenced in the new Thor movie, and it’s probably the trashiest film I’ve watched in a while. It reminded me of the kind of intentionally bad film playing on a tv in the background of another film or tv show — like the Bruce Willis movie in The Player, for example. It’s honestly impressive to get such bad performances out of Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. Might have to watch Deep Blue Sea now as a palette cleanser — something I’d never thought I’d say about a Renny Harlin movie. Grade D
