I need to watch more Jane Campion.
You have my full support in this endeavor (in case you didn't know already ;) ).

By episode three this has completely divested itself of any cop show mechanics. Hooray you might say, as if listening to people shout at each other from such stereotyped positions is a better option somehow. It's a question of acting skill that Mullen in particular gets this far into the series with any control of "evil patriarch no1" that he is expected to play. Not an evil man but an evil MAN. As if a generation of male-gender bias will be rectified by one feminist nuclear option of a TV show. They give it a good go. Dragging a man to death behind a boat at the start sets off all sorts of bells I ignored as I woke up watching this.

By the time the detective is mirroring emotionally the central crime the palpable torturing of tropes is begging for any semblance of a genre story to be totally shucked of in favour of wandering in the woods or wading in the water in an unending rapture of mis en scene. Of course revealing character through action and a response to bad people and their crimes would be too....what?....simple?...unoriginal? I think at this point it's just too subtle so get the worlds evilest bloke in to shout at women a bit more. One Mullen please.

It was free to watch. Cloud. Silver lining.

This seems rather unnecessary and might prove slightly disappointing, like the second season of Rectify. I wish Campion would go back to making a feature film. It's been five years since Bright Star.

I'd like her to do another movie, too, but I'm on board with whatever she's doing. I trust whatever season 2 is, it'll be interesting. :)
