Is Short Term 12 eligible?

Doubt it. No where else seems to consider it a debut either.

Yeah, the very limited theatrical run of I Am Not a Hipster technically makes Short Term 12 ineligible here, though that doesn't quite seem to be within the spirit of the rules. What do you think, íKeith!?

Lake Bell's In A World should qualify, right?

Yeah, it's eligible. I think it's appeared on at least one ballot already, too.

Hmm... it was "self released" so played for a week in LA and a day in 5-6 other places with help from Kickstarter. While I don't know if this counts as a "theatrical release" I'd also wary of saying it doesn't due to the changing nature of distribution. Added awkwardness? They were released in the same year.

I'd say eff it and let it in. Though I'm pretty sure that'd take a nomination spot away from something else. ;)

Conscious be your guide and all that.

Neither of these seem to have gotten a US theatrical release(?).

I love Short Term 12 and would love to see it get as many nominations as it can. However, I Am Not A Hipster has been on Netflix Instant and been available to see for quite sometime. Yes, it's theatrical run was incredibly small, but it is hardly unfindable. I don't think Short Term 12 should qualify, personally.

Just to clarify: Films don't need a US theatrical release to be eligible. But a US theatrical release for one film makes all future films by that director ineligible.
