Upstream Color

... what can I say, I'm a fan of minimalism

Bug from Upstream is certainly one effect that stuck with me all year.

Gravity VFX Reel

A Gravity VFX Reel is finally available. It's spectacular.

Here are the VES award nominees for the main two film categories with a collection of VFX breakdowns for the ones I could find:

Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture
Gravity
Iron Man 3 (Digital Domain 1 & 2) (Weta) (Trixter)
Pacific Rim (ILM) (Mirada Studios) (RodeoFX)
Star Trek Into Darkness (ILM) (Pixomondo)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture
Rush (Double Negative)
The Great Gatsby (Multi-Studio Reel)
The Lone Ranger (ILM)
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The Wolf of Wall Street (Brainstorm Digital)
White House Down (Scanline / Hybride) (Prime Focus)

Thanks for putting that together. I love that they differentiate between the two types of implementation. The latter category is full of surprises. Stuff that I'm blissfully unaware of.
