Well, shit. I just wanted to have a place where I can record the 1999 films I have seen on filmspotting. /shrug

Good enough for me. Thanks for taking the initiative.

Don't waste your time.

Some people really love this film, others really hate it.  I will watch it-- eventually-- to make my own decision. :)

I'll admit it, I loved the first half hour of this film, but then it completely goes off the rails and becomes absurdly ridiculous. After you finish watching it, you have to indulge in watching .

I've seen some 80+ films. About 20 of them I barely remember at all, so they are not included in this list. I've only ranked the ones I would rate 8/10 or higher, the remaining ones are alphabetical in their respective groups.

EDIT July 2016:
5 new viewings and 8 revisits for films of 1999 since my original post in June 2013. L'humanité and Pola X are new in the Top 10, the latter due to a revisit.

No plans to watch Aimée & Jaguar? I saw it yesterday and thought it might be for you. I almost liked it. Had no real reason not to like it. Just found the story to drift along without too much purpose, even though a lot happens. (I had similar experiences with Bangkok Dangerous and Spring Breakers, and I don't think it was because I saw them all on the same day. A&J was the best of the three.)

As for me, I haven't been able to find...
6ixtynin9
The Color of Paradise
The Curve
RKO 281
Sicilia!
Time Regained

and still hope to get to...
A Room For Romeo Brass
Happy End
Herod’s Law
Himalaya
Human Resources
Humanite
In China They Eat Dogs
It All Starts Today
Moloch
Mr. Death
Pola X
The Road Home
Two Hands
Under the Sun
When the Day Breaks

That's one of those I didn't remember well enough to rate. No real urge to revisit, although I did have a thing for Maria Schrader back in the '90s.

American Beauty is really great though. Not sure any director could have pushed Farnsworth to the Oscar.

Anyway, I agree that this (and any) movie would be better not directed by Lynch, who I maintain is my least favorite director of ever.

This thread has a new first post, because I love you. It contains a list of every 1999 film on IMDb with at least 2,500 votes and a rating of 7.0 or higher; plus any title mentioned previously in this thread, the 1999 FYC threads, or any other best-of threads for the year.

I'll be tracking all reviews from the Retro Filmspots Review Thread: 1999 Edition thread from this point forward. I'll be reluctant to open the nominations balloting until our collective "percent discovered" gets upwards of 30%.

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.
