The trickiest part of doing a genre list like this will be deciding which films are truly a part of the genre. I don't have a good solution for this yet, but I'm optimistic we'll figure something out.

I'm so excited. Doing my list now. From a genre point of view, I'd go with an anything goes kind of thing. If I want to include Fantasia for the Night on Bald Mountain sequence (and parts of the Rites of Spring, scary dinos!), why not?

Keeping with the Disney theme, take a film like Bambi. A handful of people call it the most terrifying film ever made — and it definitely rates high enough as a film to make a Top 100 list — but maybe only one person in thirty would really call it a horror film. I don't want to have to keep two sets of books (e.g., "it's a 10.0 in general but a 4.0 as a Horror film"), so I need a simple system to take into account the group's opinion on what is and isn't horror.

I'll probably send out the top 500 to everyone in a PM and let them single out the films they don't think should be included on a Horror list; and then discount their votes on those films. So Bambi could have 25 votes for a 7.71 average in the Ratings Project in general, but only 4 votes for a 9.5 average so far as the Horror list is concerned. The score for the latter would be considerably lower, putting the film on the borderline so far as making the list. For example.

edit: On second thought, the much simpler solution would just be to poll on the questionable films and go with the majority. That's much more likely.

One of the few Icheckmovies lists where Im not even amongst the top 1000 users is the Top 500 Horror Movies. Fixing that this coming month and a half.

Id just say anything with an IMDb horror hashtag works (its seems like they've got a lot better with those...The Godfather used to be classified in roughly 37 different genres). Anything else on a list can just be put in a yes or no poll for a couple of days after the deadline.

If you asked me to guess one film in your top 10, I'd pick Trouble Every Day.  Don't think of it as a horror movie?

Building my list, but you're right. I'm really torn about including serial killer films. Psycho definitely makes the list, but Silence of the Lambs doesn't seem right to me. Even though it has quite a few Horror elements, it's a manhunt movie, and ranking-wise it would be my #1.
