To my shame I have never seen MNtY.  I need to make it a priority to catch up with this.

Loving all the Yamadas conversation. I rewatched it recently, making it 3 viewings in a year, so my problems with the back half can't be that bad. In fact, I can pinpoint exactly where things start to feel long. The Chapter is called THE FIGHT FOR JUSTICE. It's the lengthy standoff and confrontation with the motorcycle gang.

In The Moonlighter, Fred MacMurray plays a cattle rustler named Wes Anderson. Is there another example of a film where the main character is given a name that became famous years later?

Edward G. Robinson as Christopher Cross in Scarlet Street?
Sara: Good-bye, father Isak. Can't you see you're the one I love? Today, tomorrow and forever.
Isak Borg: I'll keep that in mind.

I couldn't stand the Yamadas at all, worst Ghibli by a mile.

It's pretty good. There are plenty worse. See also: Goro Miyazaki.

There's a character called Michael Jackson in Tourneur's Wichita. He's a little kid and he gets killed.
