In hindsight I should have voted for "Brazzaville Teen-ager" for best debut. You CINECAST!ed up, FLY. Not that it mattered, no one else would have voted for it.

@noff. I love the Jack Reacher love! I can't believe you wouldn't love the books. Actually they work very well as Audiobooks, the dialogue and action scenes.

I like this scene in the bar because MacQuarrie has attached his dialogue style to the character. Reacher tends not to talk this much, because he doesn't need to. Don't you think Cruise is saying a lot given the situation?

Totally. That is a great scene front to back. Goes to show, doesn't matter if the scenario is a cliche, you can really make it hum with some sharp dialogue. Cruise is hitting all the right notes too... that helps. :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one gunna throw it some votes!

This is just the kind of book series I could get into. I might not now that the movie exists, hopefully with more to come, but we'll see. I was hoping they would continue the Lincoln Lawyer movies beyond that first one too, and it didn't happen.

My ballot is embarrassingly sparse this year, but I'll submit it nonetheless.

D'ya know I have Jack Reacher as a 2012 movie, least by Letterboxd's information, so I can cop out easily. I still see it as a tussle between a film star and a writer, where this scene is an example of the writer winning, this and when Duvall arrives. I don't think Cruise gives him enough wins, but then, like I say Reacher doesn't talk that much anyway.

Jack Reacher IS a 2012 film as it was given a wide release in December 2012... it would be ineligible for 2013 Filmspots :-\

Jack Reacher in December! Surely not oscar bait? Which reminds me Grand Hotel Budapest released in March. Not Oscar worthy huh? (Ignore me Im being a tinker)

Gosh Lobby our favourite films for the year are the same except I haven't seen 12YAS and The Act of Killing. I'm not in a rush to see either. Upstream Color and Side Effects are the other two on my list. I cherish both for their noirish qualities. Black no sugar.
