I too was perplex by that number!

Does The Statistics Center lie?!
Extraordinary (81-100˚) | Very good (61-80˚) | Good (41-60˚) | Fair (21-40˚) | Poor (0-20˚)

Ah, yeah, that page is including all the spambot accounts that were either deleted, banned, or weeded out at the end of the registration process.

Having the deadline on Super Bowl weekend was always a nervous proposition.

I'm willing to bet a few people started the process of filling out a ballot and then abandoned it for various reasons such as; not having seen enough films and the ballot feeling too sparsely populated to feel good about submitting; or the process of filling out a ballot taking longer then they imagined (compiling a list of eligible films they've seen, mentally combing through each one for the outstanding elements worth nominating, then trying to rank those selections against one another, etc...); or a feeling that because they didn't really contribute their picks to FYC sooner that they don't really stand a chance and so aren't worth bothering. It's nothing compared to the work you guys put in to run the filmspots, but, you know...

Considering the deadline posted on the nominations thread was last Sunday, I would surmise that anyone who was willing to bother with nominations (as opposed to the much easier task of voting) has submitted already.

When should we expect nominations to be out, pix?

I'm targeting Monday now. I want to present the nominations the same way as last year, and I think a weekday is better for that sort of slow reveal. Plus the weekend might give a couple more Filmspotters time to vote and certainly give me time to prep all the screenshots, etc.
