Still surprised Cate Blanchett is not contending for Best Actress.

+1 sad for Dallas Buyers Club too.

Jia Zangke- A Touch of Sin will need to get a nom next year. Its probably the best movie I've seen in the last 6 months. But I'm guessing very few people have seen it.

Happy:
-The Her and 12 Years A Slave love!
-Amy Adams x2!
-Brie Larson!
-The Spectacular Now screenplay!

Head Scratchers:
-Sally Hawkins? Umm...she was fine...I guess...
-Nothing for the Frozen music? I will probably attribute this to people not knowing whether it should be in the score or soundtrack cateogry.
-The Pain & Gain line? Just...why?

Slight Missteps:
-The wrong American Hustle scene is nominated (clearly "Live And Let Die" should be there)
-"Patsey And The Soap" should also be in Best Shot. Get that The Place Beyond The Pines shot outta there!

As for Dallas Buyers Club, sad Leto wasn't in there, but I wouldn't replace anyone in there for McConaughey.

Wow! Look at them Upstream Color noms! This makes me so very happy!

In general these nominations seem pretty darn strong to me. Good job everyone! ;D

It's the wrong line. "I don't just want everything you have. I want you not to have it." is the line of the year, but this is coming from someone who loved the film and thinks it's 2013's best comment on the American Dream.

The following vote-getters were the most painfully close to making the final ballot. A single extra fifth-place vote for any of them would have been enough to make the difference.

Director: The Wolf of Wall Street - Martin Scorsese
Best Actress: Blue Jasmine - Cate Blanchett
Ensemble Cast: Much Ado About Nothing
Animated Film: The Wind Rises
Documentary: We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks
Editing: Drug War
Sound: 12 Years a Slave
Cinematography: To the Wonder
Art Direction: Inside Llewyn Davis
Dramatic Scene: 12 Years a Slave - Solomon Sings

A more complete list of runners-up is below.

Here are some of the runners-up (in order of finish). Titles in blue were within a couple first-place votes of making the ballot. The ones in red weren't remotely close to getting nominated, but for the most part I wanted to list at least ten runners-up per category.

Glad that "I'm hot! I'm big!" was nominated, might split my vote between that and SB for Comedic Scene (that scene is funny, but also dramatic though), who knows.

I am CINECAST!ing pissed that At Berkley is going to keep me from having a CINECAST!ing perfect ballot yet again. UNBELIEVABLE!

Sometimes I feel like I should auto-calculate a 'best hidden treasure' category based on the most-voted for films that came up empty in the nominations. This year it'd likely look like this:

BEST HIDDEN TREASURE
Computer Chess
Gimme the Loot
Much Ado About Nothing
Stoker
To the Wonder

Also in contention: Nebraska, Behind the Candelabra, The Great Gatsby, This Is the End, Dallas Buyers Club, Prisoners, The Conjuring, August: Osage County, Iron Man 3, About Time, Tabu, and Evil Dead.
