I feel like Girls has to make some kind of feminist statement in every episode. That's what people expect from the show and it continues to do so. Broad City, as one critic called it, is "sneak-attack feminism". There's no soapbox nor does it tackle the dilemmas of the female experience per se on a daily basis per se, but it does offer two unique perspectives. No one is going to write an essay on the feminism of Broad City because it doesn't present itself to those ideas, however, it doesn't close itself off completely either. During the first season of Girls, there was a post-interview with Lena about what happened on the show and where she's going with it for that episode. While I appreciate that focus that Lena has for her show, I find Broad City to be just more fun and ultimately more informative. The big problem with the show is that they live in lavish apartments with terrible jobs which I hope they will elaborate on more in future episodes.
